Motorcycle Accident Settlement Calculator

Estimate a motorcycle accident claim under your state’s fault rule, with the other driver’s policy limits and your own UM/UIM coverage. Choose a state to apply its deadline and rules.

A rough estimate, not a prediction or an offer. Real settlements depend on the facts, the insurance available and negotiation. Talk to a personal injury attorney about your case.

Motorcycle claims start from the same math

Medical bills and lost income, plus pain and suffering as a multiple of those costs, reduced by your share of fault. What changes is the typical injury: riders have no steel frame or airbags, so fractures, road rash, head injuries and surgery are common. Many claims sit in the severe range of the multiplier.

Expect a fight about fault

Insurers often argue a rider was speeding, lane splitting or hard to see. Your state’s fault rule decides what that argument is worth. In a pure comparative fault state a 30% share cuts the award by 30%. In a contributory negligence state, any share can bar the claim. Witness statements, helmet camera footage and crash reconstruction carry extra weight.

Helmets and damages

Not wearing a helmet does not usually bar a claim, but in some states the defense can argue it made a head injury worse and ask for a reduction. Wearing one, and keeping it, helps. Laws on helmet use and on whether non-use can be raised in court vary by state.

Insurance gaps are common

The car driver’s policy may carry only the state minimum, which a serious motorcycle injury can exceed many times over. Your own uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage on the bike is often the second source of money. Motorcycles are also often outside no-fault rules, so check whether PIP applies to you. Run the policy limits and UM/UIM gap calculator to see what your coverage adds.

Questions people ask

Is the rider always blamed in a motorcycle accident?

No. Many crashes happen when a driver turns left across the rider’s path or changes lanes without seeing the bike. Fault is decided on the evidence, not on who rode the motorcycle.

Does no-fault insurance cover motorcycle riders?

Often not. Several no-fault states exclude motorcycles from PIP, which can also mean the threshold to sue does not apply. Check your state and policy.

What if the driver who hit me had no insurance?

Your uninsured motorist coverage on the motorcycle policy can pay, up to its limit. Some states also let you use UM coverage from a car policy in your household.
